This post is long overdue, a year in the making. Since starting the blog version of this site, jessecohen.com a tremendous number of events have occurred in my business, professional, and personal life! From getting married, to starting a gallery and curating or organizing over 14 art shows in the past year, it has been a busy and exciting time.

In my professional life, I’m working in a new lab in Georgetown University while I’m learning new techniques like micro-arrays which will provide useful data about a number of important pathways in the direction of our research.

In my business life, I’ve blogged with an effort to increase awareness of DC area art on artdc.com while I pushed the limits of the artdc community on artdc.org .  As always I’m really pleased to see a cohesive nature budding in the DC area art scene, which was part of our goal when we started artdc.org.  My thoughts go out to all of the artists who showed up to that first meeting at Teaism in March of 2004.  We’ve done things that I never knew were possible, from starting a gallery to working with developers to do pop-up exhibitions and developing face-to-face relationships that started on the internet.  We’ve developed a powerful tool, we look forward to taking it to new places.

It’s been a busy month.  To much to get into, but we have great plans for the future with .org and .com art projects including the Patron’s show for artdc.org a the artdc Gallery in Hyattsville, and curatorial projects the Becoming Animal show at the art League.  Details here, along with a quote on Urban Turf!

The art resume is now up to date.   I look at the list of activities since ’04, when we started artdc.org, and I’m amazed since ’04 seems like yesterday.   I appreciate everyone’s positive energy.  From artdc.org to our gallery project, the resume is getting longer.   Click the about link to see it.

We’ve been working really hard in collaboration with artoutlet to develop a new exhibition, while at the same time the artdc gallery has been producing the Common Element.  The ZIP Code show is an exhibition with art relating to the artist’s sense of space and location while the Common Element is an exhibition of Glass sculpture by two of the hottest glass schools in the DC area.  Find more details about the shows here.

Life has been moving at an amazing pace with muscle truck force; developing multiple shows in the same month while working hard in biotech research.  It’s an exiting opportunity to be surrounded by so many unique opportunities and outlets.  While there are many sleepless nights, I look forward to seeing what’s next.

On June 13th there will be an opening for a new exhibition of sculpture from 3 amazing  local artists.  We look forward to seeing you there!

There’s a new collector’s pick up at artdc.com. If you’re an art collector or have an interest in becoming one, This new painting is a wonderful way to start.  Matt Sesow is in it to stay, and he’s an incredible artist moving forward at a fast pace.   He produces a great deal of work.  He paints so much, that we heard he had to remove his dishwasher so he could have more storage room for art!!!

artdc.com has started a new program which will select individual works of art for collectors to buy. The art is top notch, and I hope to see these selected artists do amazing things though out their careers. Stop by artdc.com to read more about this project. The first artist selected is Nils Henrik Sundqvist the founder of Art Outlet.

I had a great talk at Jammin Java in Fairfax for the Arts Council of Fairfax County. We discussed artdc.org, our presence on the net, features and opportunities for the DC metro arts community. Around 100 people showed up and we sold 5 artdc.org t-shirts, so I was quite pleased to find a great number of people interested in what we’re doing.

Jesse Cohen’s photography continues with great success. More images and new photos to come. With plans for the development of a new group show with in the next month or so. Information to come as we develop more details. There will be great art to come!

On June 3rd, I’m involved in a show entitled “Six Man Show.” This event is curated by Alison Christ, and will contain the words of 6 DC area artists. Come out and see some new work that hasn’t been shown publicly. Just think 2 shows, back to back. Aromatic, then new work at 6 Man!

Edit: This show was a great success. Many people came out on a rainy day to see some really strong work. Once again, Alison proves that a one day show is a strong possibility or opportunity for artists to get some well deserved attention! We all look forward to seeing the next show that she plans.
